Ways of Life and the Eventual Downfall of Humanity

I am not a Christian.  I used to be, but I have since lost my faith.  There are so many grievances I have towards certain Christian groups.  These are people that interpret their religious doctrines as messages of hate, rather than love.  From the 15 years of Christian teachings I’ve recieved, one thing has remained consistant as I’ve read, and had read to me, the New Testament of the Holy Bible.  This is a message of love.  It’s always been a message to love your neighbor.  A message to not judge one another.  To turn the other cheek in times of confrontation.  The Golden Rule.  These are messages I, as someone who considers himself to be Agnostic, can completely agree with.  The way I interpret this doctrine, it’s the perfect, and best way to live life, even though I don’t believe in any god watching over me.  Unfortunately, I feel like this message has been corrupted and completely turned around.  What’s even more unfortunate is that it’s been turned around by the very people who follow it.  I’m not saying all Chrsitians are this way, nor am I saying this exclusively about Christians or the Christian faith, but it seems like a large portion of Christianity is, in fact, this way.  I thoroughly believe what will be the eventual downfall of not only our nation, but also our entire world, will be the actions of people who have stopped following the message of love.  I do not hate religion, nor do I have anything against it.  It’s nice to know some people have something to look forward to after death, and I’m happy for them.  However, I do believe religion will cause the end.  Though religion itself is not a bad thing, it can be made into a bad thing by the people who use it to justify unjust acts.  The Crusades and the 9/11 attacks are examples of two different relious acts that caused mass damage, all in the name of God.  It doesn’t matter which god is being declared the justice, acts that kill innocent people are never justified.  I think it’s incredibly ironic that religion can create good ways of life, but can also very easily cause the eventual downfall of humanity.
